Start the trip from Lao Cai to Bac Ha. After a half of an hour, take a quick stop to visit Ban Cam Market. The colorful market opens only on Tuesday, gathered by the Ethnic minorities of Flower H’mong, Black Dao and Tay coming from the surrounding villages.
Continue the drive to Bac Ha where lunch will be severed in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, do a walk trip to Ban Pho Village, home of Flower H’mong and the Nung people.
During the two hours loop walk around the village to see the daily farming life of the mountainous minority groups and breath deeply in freshly sweet air of corn fields, rice terraces, green tea hills and apple course farms.
Back to Bac Ha Town to check-in traditional homestay of Tay ethnic host and have the evening relaxing by your own before the dinner at local restaurant.
Approx: 3 hour driving/ 1 hour visiting market/1 hour lunch/ 2 hour walk.
Today is for the amazing Sin Cheng Market. After around one hour drive, arrive at the market where a wide range of local products are already in display. This is one of the biggest colorful markets in the north of Vietnam.
The ethnic minority groups such as the Flower H’mong, Phu La, Si La, Tay and Black Dao are gathering here every Wednesday. Many people, who come from far away villages, have been starting their journey on foots from midnight, with sleeping babies wrapped on their back, or instead, a bamboo baskets with full of forest or farm products.
Here, the special market for Flower H’Mong, Tay, Giay and the other people around the area who come to trade and exchange local products like tobacco, clothes, fruits, horses, buffaloes..etc. The market itself is also a place for the young to meet or find their partners, for the old to get away from life struggles, for man to enjoy their traditional corn wine; it is like a colour festival of life, a happy time for them before heading back to the real life.
For many of them, the market is the most special day of a week that cannot be missed. After having lunch in Bac Ha, continue to drive downhill for about half an hour and then start a short walk to Trung Do village which belongs to the Tay minority.
In case the Chay river’s water level is high enough, get on a motor-boat and have a cruise to Bao Nhai, experiencing the picturesque scenes on the river banks.
If it is not possible for the cruise, cross the river to visit a Flower Hmong village before walking along the river in around 2 hours to Bao Nhai bridge, where the vehicle await for the journey back.
Approx: 4 hour driving/ 1 hour boat cruise or 2 hours walking.
The trip starts from Lao Cai and finishes in Sapa, or vice-versa, based on the day of arrival/ departure of the night train to/ from Hanoi.
